GRTgaz is launching a call to the market (Open Season) in order to assess the needs and confirm the economic interest for a hydrogen transport infrastructure by pipeline in the Dunkirk industrial and port zone. GRTgaz therefore proposes to study the construction, development and operation of a pipeline accessible to all market players. This territorial initiative is a continuation of the first national consultation of the low-carbon and renewable hydrogen market carried out in June 2021. GRTgaz has thus identified the first ecosystems in which a dynamic of development of decarbonized hydrogen is underway.
Large industrial zones, including port zones, have been identified as the first basins where hydrogen transport logistics are expected, driven by key hydrogen production or consumption projects.
Building on these lessons, GRTgaz has launched projects in the Dunkirk, Fos-Marseille and Valenciennes basins, in Moselle and in the Rhine valley to develop pipeline transport infrastructures for the benefit of emerging local hydrogen ecosystems. These projects aim to connect producers and consumers of low-carbon and renewable hydrogen in these territories by providing security of supply, flexibility and territorial dynamism thanks to a shared network infrastructure.
