Hydrogen + : Hy-fcell Canada is both an exhibition and a conference. Can you give us more details?

Guido von Vacano. Founded in 2001, and present in Canada since 2019, hy-fcell is one of the oldest and most important international technical exhibitions for the hydrogen and fuel cell industry. It provides a comprehensive overview of relevant international markets and technological advances. Visitors and participants network and meet decision-makers. The interactive format is an ideal platform for experts and newcomers to develop lasting business relationships.

What is the content of the conferences?

The The event programme includes plenary sessions with political and industry leaders as well as roundtable discussions with representatives from leading companies and organisations. Various workshops will feature experts working with participants to find solutions to current issues such as roadmaps, hydrogen hubs and commercialisation. In addition, the highly anticipated ‘Dare-to-Ask’ sessions will includewill feature short presentations designed to stimulate discussion. hy-fcell will host Professor Dr. Christian Mohrdieck (cellcentric), Daryl Wilson (Hydrogen Council), Andrew Vesey (Fortescue Future Industries North America), and Laura Brumsey (Compressed Gas Association) to speak at a panel discussion on accelerating the rise of the green hydrogen economy. The discussion “ Hydrogen production and electrolysers » with Christopher Norris (Siemens Energy Canada), Shelley Babin (Atura Power), David Wick (Enapter) and Stephen Szymanski (Nel Hydrogen US) will focus on electrolysis using carbon-free hydrogen from renewable and nuclear resources to produce clean and economically responsible hydrogen. The session “First Nations Energy Leadership” will present and discuss the interests of Indigenous peoples, their nations and businesses involved in the emerging hydrogen energy sector.

Who will be present at the exhibition?

Exhibitors at the show come from a wide range of fuel cell and hydrogen industries around the world — including well-known players such as BC Hydro, Powertech Labs, HTEC, Toyota, Greenlight Innovation, Ballard Power Systems, BayoTech On-Site Hydrogen, Linde and Air Products. The Trade Commissioner Service, the Province of British Columbia and the Gustavson School of Business (UVic) will also have booths. Key topics at the show will include fuel cell components and systems, fuel cell production technology, hydrogen generation and infrastructure, fuel cell and hydrogen technology application areas, and specialized research, development and services. Sponsors such as HTEC, Greenlight and Toyota, as well as a wide range of partners, will be present at hy-fcell Canada 2023 as an industry platform.

What are the advantages of being an exhibitor or visitor?

Exhibitors at hy-fcell meet the most important experts in the industry: buyers from leading companies, potential partners and opinion leaders from business, politics and research. There are many opportunities for professional exchanges with other trade fair participants. Exhibitors as well as visitors can take part in open discussions and establish new business relationships. Networking is a key focus of hy-fcell. Already in the run-up to the trade fair, interested participants can book appointments with suitable partners via an AI-based platform. Using AI technology and based on an individual profile created in advance, this ensures that partners are brought together whose interests are based on the same content and networking goals. This means that trade fair time can be used efficiently and contacts are of higher quality and potentially more sustainable.

Furthermore, when it comes to climate protection, there is hardly a topic that concerns us more than decarbonization. Alternative energy sources and drives continue to gain in importance – and with them hydrogen and fuel cell technologies. A visit to hy-fcell in Vancouver is a must for anyone who wants to know what the current state of the art is and what innovations the industry has in the pipeline.

Hydrogen is being deployed in many countries. Is this show an opportunity to bring together innovations in this field in one place?

Canada plays an important role in the development of hydrogen and fuel cell technology; Vancouver is even considered the “cradle of fuel cells”. Due to the international importance of the topic of sustainable energy, hy-fcell also takes place in other industry-relevant locations in addition to Canada, including Germany and China. Partners Canada and Germany have recently come even closer together on the topic of sustainable energy: in August 2022, the Canada-Germany Hydrogen Alliance was adopted, while in November, the University of British Columbia and the University of Stuttgart signed a declaration of cooperation in which they wish to strengthen their cooperation in sustainable energy and hydrogen research. This makes the Vancouver and Canadian locations industry meeting points.

What are the practical arrangements for participating?

The hy-fcell International Exhibition and Conference is held annually in Germany, Canada and China and includes an international exhibition, a premier conference, interactive workshops and a festive evening. This year, it will be held in Vancouver from June 5 to 7 and in Stuttgart from September 13 to 14. The Vancouver trade show opens its doors from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday. The organizer is Messe Stuttgart. For more information, visit www.hy-fcell.ca et www.hy-fcell.com.
