The Energy Observer is the first autonomous energy ship, powered by hydrogen and renewable energies, a project designed and developed by Victorian Erussard, a 38 -year -old browser.
The 30.5 m long catamaran for 12.80 m wide is the first boat in the world capable of producing its own hydrogen by electrolysis from sea water, thanks to the coupling of renewable energies.
According to Victorien Erussard, who has been working on this project since 2013, “this boat is a Smart Greed (smart electricity network)”.
The boat has varied renewable energy sources: 130 m² of photovoltaic panels, two vertical axis wind turbines and an intelligent traction wing, which will feed two electric motors convertible into hydrogenists.
Technologically, the CEA-Liten Research Institute in Grenoble (Center-Est) has developed the essential battery to transform hydrogen into energy.
Hydrogen is obtained from seawater thanks to an electronicator, after decay. It is then stored and usable in the event of insufficient production of the renewable energy equipment of the boat.
Hydrogen contains up to three times more energy per unit of mass than diesel and 2.5 times more than natural gas. In addition, its combustion does not reject CO2 or fine particles.
After a series of stages in France until the end of the year, Energy Obser will go for a six -year “odyssey of the future”: a world tour in 101 stages without CO2 emission.
