The Alpine Hydrogen Highway Project has reached a major milestone with the membership of the first carriers and end customers. Conditional on the approval of a subsidy project, this membership marks the imminent arrival of the first ten heavy goods vehicles around a future hydrogen station in the Maurienne Valley, in the heart of the Alps.
The initial objective is to create an innovative ecosystem around renewable hydrogen to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the transport sector. The founding partners, HYmpulsion, AREA-APRR, SFTRF, and the Syndicat du Pays de la Maurienne, formalize their commitment with the signing of a partnership agreement.
Seven companies, from the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region to Northern Italy, are supporting the project. These pioneers of the decarbonized highway illustrate the considerable potential of the project, supporting commitments such as the submission of a subsidy project, the price stability of hydrogen until 2032 and access to reduced toll rates in accordance with the new European Eurovignette directive.
The companies Michelin, SATM, Jaquemmoz, Codognotto, PUM, Citaix Chasse and Perrenot have chosen heavy hydrogen vehicles or solutions equivalent in performance to diesel vehicles, while eliminating CO emissions.2 and fine particles. This transition should save around 4,000 tonnes of CO2thereby helping to improve air quality and preserve the climate.
The Alpine Hydrogen Highway Project positions the region as a European leader in renewable hydrogen for mobility, boosting the competitiveness and attractiveness of road freight transport. An ecological revolution in the Alps, driven by innovation and respect for the environment.
