Gen-Hy, a French start-up offering innovative solutions for the production of green hydrogen, and Eiffage Énergie Systèmes announce the creation of Gen-Hy Cube, dedicated to the manufacture of AEM (Anion Exchange Membrane) electrolysers developed and patented by Gen-Hy, whose factory will be in Montbéliard.

This partnership concretizes the simultaneous product-process engineering approach undertaken for two years between Gen-Hy and Eiffage Énergie Systèmes. It is an opportunity for both companies to contribute to the development of renewable hydrogen production and thus support the decarbonization of industry, mobility and energy.

In this context, Gen-Hy brings its technological know-how in the mastery of the production of AEM membranes but also in the production of catalytic deposits on membranes and electrodes. The start-up, a spin-off of FFED, a specialist in electrolysis for more than 15 years, aims to expand and diversify its markets, and to focus on the production of innovative and modular electrolysers.

Eiffage Énergie Systèmes provides its industrialization capabilities by making available its know-how in product-process integration, lean manufacturing, mechatronics and risk management, and by intervening in the assembly of stacks. As an energy infrastructure assembler, Eiffage Énergie Systèmes is integrating the green hydrogen sector to master global and sustainable solutions, and meet the needs of its energy supplier customers engaged in the ecological transition.

The new plant, whose first deliveries should be effective in 2024, will have an annual production capacity of 100 MW of AEM electrolysers with a possible extension up to 300 MW. The innovative and unique technology in France of Gen-Hy electrolysers will make it possible to obtain a high efficiency of 85% and a high purity of hydrogen. This technology uses abundant and cheap materials (no rare metals). Thanks to this technology, 1 MW installed will make it possible to produce up to 160 tonnes of green hydrogen per year.

As a reminder, Gen-Hy inaugurated in December 2021 in Orly, its first production unit for the manufacture of AEM membranes, which is also the first unit created in France. It allows the start-up to already offer a range of AEM alkaline electrolysers from 50 kW to 4 MW with an innovative and modular design in order to support its customers in their real needs.

    About Gen-Hy:
